The Young Women's Leadership Charter School of Chicago (YWLCS) offers girls a rigorous college preparatory education focusing on math, science, technology, and leadership. YWLCS serves an economically and racially diverse student body from 30 communities throughout the city. Two-thirds of the students live in Bronzeville, Bridgeport, Pilsen, and surrounding neighborhoods. An all-girls public school, YWLCS is open to any girl in Chicago. Rather than traditional grades, students receive performance-based achievement evaluations. Students complete internships as part of college preparation. Approximately six percent of students participate in Advanced Placement Spanish and 10% take College Bridge classes. A three-week summer school enables students to fulfill course requirements and complete work. Many students attend summer enrichment programs at colleges and universities throughout the country.
YWLCS provides girls a challenging curriculum in a small school environment, nurturing self-confidence and optimism while inspiring achievement in math, science, and technology. YWLCS has one of the highest graduation and college acceptance rates among non-selective high schools
