Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
The Foundation was founded in 1987.
What is your primary product or service?
To promote headache education among physicians and allied health professionals.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Back in the early 1960s, when Dr. Diamond, in his family practice, noticed headache patterns emerging among his patients. Upon further investigation, he realized there was very little scientific information available to accurately diagnose and treat them. Cluster headache, for instance, was classified as migraine, which, for sufferers, meant significantly inadequate treatments for their very acute symptoms.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
That realization was all it took to spark this legendary doctor's lifelong pursuit of better diagnostic tools and treatment options for headache conditions. Along the way, he's played integral roles in transforming the entire field's approach, including that of the American Headache Society, from which he received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.
Although his accomplishments include a laundry list of “ firsts” - like establishing the largest complete inpatient unit at a hospital; being the first to clinically incorporate biofeedback into the treatment process; testifying before the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, about the benefits of specific pharmaceuticals for headache patients – perhaps his greatest contribution to the field of headache medicine has been his unwavering commitment to creating the first true continuum of care for patients. Treatment by qualified, multi-disciplinary headache specialists at every stage of the condition is a sufferer's best hope for long-term success at coping with headache.
